Weather has always been a major interest of mine. Growing up in Valparaiso, IN, I witnessed a diverse range of spectacular weather phenomena from severe thunderstorms to tremendous lake-effect snow events. I remember some winters where the snow would pile up so deep that I could literally climb on top of my house! I grew up hooked to The Weather Channel and the local weather stations.
In 2010 I graduated from Valparaiso University with a B.S. in Meteorology/Mathematics. My time at Valpo was terrific; I was coached by Good Morning America Weekend meteorologist Ginger Zee in weather casting and I participated in a lot of activities such as storm chasing with the meteorology faculty. One of my favorite things that I did while at Valpo was forecast lake-effect snow for the local schools. I was in touch with school administrators early in the morning to determine delays or closures. To perform that task in the community where I grew up was an honor. My education also included internships with WFLA-TV in Tampa, FL, WGN-TV in Chicago, IL, and WYIN-TV in Merrillville, IN. I had the opportunity to work with some amazing people including one of my childhood idols, Tom Skilling!
In my personal time, I enjoy following the Chicago Blackhawks and Chicago Bears. I also listen to a lot of music (Radiohead, Bon Iver, The Flaming Lips) and frequently go to concerts with Bonnaroo ‘06 as the highlight of my ventures. My other passion outside of weather is video games. I had the opportunity to work for a local video game store while going to school and I formed many great friendships while participating in an industry that provides so much entertainment. The Boy Scouts of America is an important organization to me and I persevered to the rank of Eagle Scout. I still enjoy hiking and fishing, so keep an eye out for your local meteorologist as you explore Siouxland's outdoors!
As a meteorologist for KCAU, I am committed to keeping Siouxland informed and entertained with an accurate forecast. I will relay the important forecast headlines and equip you with all the information you need to protect yourself during severe weather events.
