If someone had told me ten or even five years ago that I would be in the news business, I probably would have thought they were joking… or crazy!

When I was growing up, I loved books.  Fairy tales, murder mysteries, biographies, I loved them all.  My idea of the perfect job back then would have been reading stories all day, every day.  Well, maybe that still sounds great.

But when I got to my writing classes at the University of Minnesota, I realized I didn’t want to just focus on the writing and the English side of things. So I picked up a few journalism classes and I loved them.  What better way to experience different stories every single day than to cover them!

I love that being a part of the news means doing something different every day.  I’ve still got my writing and reading basics but now with some video thrown in.  And I get to tell people’s stories instead of just reading about them. For me, that’s pretty fantastic.

I grew up in Farmington, Minnesota and from there went on to the University of Minnesota.  I had two wonderful and challenging internships and one amazing mentor.  One was at the St. Paul Pioneer Press in St. Paul, Minnesota where I got my tail kicked as I learned the ropes of the local news in the newspaper business. After my stint at the Pioneer Press, my news mentor Jamie Yuccas helped me to land an internship at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis.  I had followed Jamie around on a few stories before and had always had a blast, who knew you could have so much fun at work?  But now I could do that three times a week, and I loved every minute of it.

When I left college and the world of interning, I accepted a multimedia producer position down in Des Moines for WHO-HD.  I loved it there but missed reporting and luckily for me, ABC9 needed a multimedia journalist.

I’m excited to start telling Siouxland’s stories.  Feel free to send me your story ideas, I love to hear them all!
