Cedar Rapids, IA (ABC9 News) - Former Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney is back involved in politics and back in Iowa.

The former governor returned to Iowa for the first time since November of 2012 to campaign for U.S. Senate hopeful Joni Ernst.

Romney greeted old political friends and even people who came to his own rallies. He told a crowd of about a hundred people that Ernst, a member of the Iowa Senate, mirrored his own family and political beliefs.

Ernst is the only Iowa politician Romney has endorsed.

"You know it's important because the road to real change, in the Senate and getting Harry Reid out of that chair he sits in, that road goes through Iowa and at the head of that road is Joni Ernst," said Romney.

The two have another scheduled campaign appearance in Davenport.
