Alcohol sales rise in 2015 for Iowa

Liqour generated $277.6 million in sales

The Iowa Alcoholic Beverage Division released the sales statistics for the 2015 fiscal year Tuesday, showing a 5.4% increase in sales from the previous year.

More than $329 million was generated from the sales of liquor products, with whiskey and vodka products responsible for the majority of sales.

The top selling brand of liquor sold in the state of Iowa was Black Velvet.

Over $128 million of the money earned in 2015 was returned to public treasuries, $20.4 million of which is being funneled into the Iowa Department of Public Health for substance abuse programs.
