Research has shown that the summer months tend to be a popular time for babies to be born. Mercy hospital sees a lot of births during June and July but August proves to be a popular month as well.
"I think parents are looking at infection rates in the winter, where in the summer their kids are home from school, they don't have the bugs coming home from school with their kids... Some of it might just be the holiday season, there's more family time, more together time as families, and then eight or nine months later, comes August and September, end of July and then we see the summer babies and the early fall babies," says Ellen DeJong-Petersen, registered nurse at Mercy Hospital." "
August is also promoted as national breastfeeding month so new mothers are often encouraged to provide their newborns with the healthiest feeding method possible.
