Students at East Middle School lent a helping hand Friday morning.
Peer helpers from the eighth grade class gathered in the lunch room to pack food bags for fellow students who might otherwise go hungry over the weekend.
This is the 5th year the school is doing the project.
The bags are eight to ten easy-to-make items that students can prepare on their own. With an average of 125 bags distributed each week, school counselor Gail Haight has seen the impact that this program has on not only those who receive the food bags, but also those students who help prepare them
Gail Haight says, "Not only does it help children and families who might need nutritional food but it also helps children such as these ones behind that you see, that are doing a service, that are helping others in our school at East Middle."
The bags are distributed every Friday afternoon at three locations inside the school.
