A 72-year-old Homer man was killed on his farm Monday night after his tractor rolled over an incline and pinned him beneath it.
Bill Wiseman was pronounced dead at the scene after police and fire crews rushed to his aid and tried saving him.
"I was quite surprised because it was just a week ago we were at county convention with him," says Larry Brostad, Bill's friend.
When Brostad found out Bill had passed, he didn't expect it was through farming; he thought it was cancer.
"Bill had been suffering for a while and fighting cancer. There's going to be an open spot there that can never be filled," says Brostad.
Bill was a member of the American Legion in Homer, Nebraska but he had friends at multiple posts.
Bill's death was a tragic loss, but for other vets and members of the legion, Tuesday proved to be rough for more reasons than Bill's death.
"We lost three veterans today and we'll have three funerals this week and it's going to be a very difficult week for all of us," says Brostad.
Police and fire crews are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Bill's death.
