(ABC9 News) Should young adults have later start times when it comes to school?
That's what a study from the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests, to help ensure that today's teens are getting adequate sleep.
According to the study, delaying the start of the school day for middle and high school students until at least 8:30 a.m. helps to reduce chronic sleep loss, which is ultimately linked to poor health, overall.
The study suggests that teens should be getting between 8 and a half, to 9 and a half hours of sleep every school night. It’s also noted kids should be turning off all distractions in the bedroom, including TV’s, computers, cellphones and gaming devices.
