A Sioux City man is in custody after shooting and wounding a 13-year veteran of the police department.

The Sioux City Police Department were investigating numerous reports of robberies and burglaries throughout Sioux City early Sunday morning.

Several individuals were located at an apartment at 2447 Park Ave.

During their investigation, Isaiah Mothershed shot a Sioux City Police Office while inside the apartment. He also shot and wounded himself.

The officer, a 13-year veteran of the force, was treated and released from an area hospital.

Mothershed was arrested and taken into custody. ABC9 confirmed that Mothershed was a patient at Mercy Medical Center on Sunday morning, but his condition was not being released.

This is not the first time Mothershed has had a run-in with the Sioux City Police. In July of 2015, Mothershed was arrested for kidnapping and assaulting two men over a drug debt. Those charges were later dropped due to “lack of evidence.”

The cases are still being actively investigated. If you have any information about these cases, please contact Crime Stoppers at 712-258-TIPS. Your identity is not required and a cash reward may be paid for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
