Three people from Washington state have been arrested following an undercover prostitution sting in Sioux City Wednesday night.
According to court documents, detectives located an ad for escort services on Backpage.com Wednesday evening. Officers were able to arrange a meeting for sex with the woman, and an undercover officer met with her at the Palmer House Motel on Gordon Drive.
When the officer arrived, 20-year-old Naomi Brooks agreed to accept money for sex and stated that she wanted to start by showering with the undercover officer. She was taken into custody immediately after that request.
A short time later police also took 38-year-old Jamaal Hawkins into custody after authorities were able to determine that he was pimping for Brooks and another woman. Police say that the room where the detective met Brooks was being rented by Hawkins and text messages on his phone indicated that he was aware of the prostitution session scheduled with the undercover detective.
After obtaining a search warrant, police found a sawed-off shotgun and $700 in the room. They also located a small amount of methamphetamine and marijuana in Hawkins' vehicle.
A second woman, 38-year-old Simeana Hubley was also taken into custody after she was found to be in possession of marijuana.
A Sioux City Police Officer received minor injuries while taking Brooks into custody. Police say that at one point she slipped out of her handcuffs and attempted to flee officers. The officer received an injury to their hand while chasing after her.
Brooks has been charged with one count of Soliciting Prostitution. She's being held in the Woodbury County Jail on a $2,000 bond
Hawkins has been charged with Felony Pimping, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Possession of an Offensive Weapon, and Drug Possession. He's currently being held in the Woodbury County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
Hubley has been charged with Possession of Marijuana and is being held on a $600 bond.
All three have court dates scheduled for November 7th at 9:00 A.M.
