The Siouxland community has over 18,000 veterans, and the nonprofit Support Siouxland Soldiers strives to help all of them in any way they can.
Waffles for Warriors is one of the many events Support Siouxland Soldiers hosts, right here in Sioux City.
The griddle was fired up this morning around 9:00 a.m.  Located just off of Indian Hills Drive, veterans and their families made it out to this free event.  Coffee, juice, donuts, and of course, waffles, were all offered.
The founder of Support Siouxland Soldiers, Sarah Petersen, said this is their fifth Waffles for Warriors event, and she is pleased the turn out keeps growing for such a wonderful opportunity to serve local veterans.
"It just gives veterans a chance to connect after they've returned from their service or deployment, and all eras of veterans can come. So it's a great opportunity for maybe a Vietnam or Korean War veteran to talk with a post 9/11 veteran," said Petersen.
Petersen said the turnout for this month's event was pretty good.  They had 50+ people show up for some breakfast and company.
Waffles for Warriors is the last Wednesday of every month from 9-11 a.m.
