AMES, Iowa (ABC9 Sports)--After a two-week competition, Sam Richardson won the starting quarterback job over Grant Rohach at Iowa State.

Head Coach Paul Rhoads announced Monday that Richardson, who began 2013 as the starter, would get another chance in two weeks when the Cyclones open with North Dakota State.

"His understanding of the scheme and decision making has really grown in the time that we've spent here the last two weeks," said Rhoads. "And maybe as much as anything, he's throwing a great ball."

Rohach started the last four games of 2013, leading the Cyclones to two wins in those games.
