Backup QBs Battle in Red-White Game

The battle for the backup quarterback spot was front and center in Nebraska's spring football game.
LINCOLN, Neb. (ABC9 Sports)--Besides Coach Bo Pelini, the two student-athletes battling for the backup quarterback position stole the show in Nebraska's spring football game Saturday afternoon.

Pelini, in homage to Faux Bo Pelini on Twitter, walked out of the tunnel with a live cat to a loud round of applause from his team and the fans at Memorial Stadium.

When the game started, Johnny Stanton and Ryker Fyfe fought hard for the backup quarterback position. Stanton completed 8 of 12 passes for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fyfe was 9 of 12 for 89 yards and a score.

Imani Cross had a stellar day from his I-back position with six carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

The Huskers open up the 2014 season against Florida Atlantic at home on August 30.
