Jury Begins Deliberations In Nino-Estrada Trial

Testimony and closing arguments have wrapped up. Now, the jury is now deciding the fate of Juan Nino-Estrada.

Sioux City, IA (ABC9 News) Testimony and closing arguments have wrapped up. Now, the jury is now deciding the fate of Juan Nino-Estrada.

On Tuesday both the prosecution and defense presented their closing arguments.

The prosecution began by recapping the testimony of the witnesses called, and going over details about the night Michael Delgado and Yolanda Valdez were killed.

Jurors were once again showed surveillance video from security cams outside the home of Luis Sanchez. The jury was asked by the prosecution to find Nino-Estrada guilty of all charges.

"Return a verdict of guilty against the defendant in the charge of first degree murder in the death of Michael Delgado. Return a verdict of guilty in the charge of first degree murder in the murder of Yolonda Valdez.

Return a verdict of guilty in the attempted murder of Luis Sanchez. And return a verdict of guilt in the charge of willful injury in the willful injuring of Luis Sanchez,” said prosecuting attorney Terry Ganzel.

However, the defense reminded the jury that eyewitness testimony from that night just doesn't add up. Saying, Nino-Estrada was simply defending himself.

"All I ask is that you follow those instructions. Look at the facts. The claimed facts and find that the state; it's not their fault, but they didn't prove their case,” said defense attorney Mike Williams.

Jurors were read instructions before being sent off to deliberate. Stay tuned to ABC9 for the verdict.
